Nicolas "Nick" Allen
Nick Allen, 11, is the main character of the story. He is a fifth grader with a massive imagination. Nick is intelligent but some might say he is a trouble maker. In the third and fourth grade, he was a master of pranks and he was scared of nothing. He is witty and creative to stray the teacher from normal lesson plans by asking questions that would start a conversation. In class, he learned about how words were created and decided to come up with one of his own; frindle. Throughout the book, Nick is very smart and inquisitive. With others, he is funny and likes to make people laugh. Nick lives in Westfield and he goes to Lincoln elementary.
Mrs. Granger
Mrs. Granger is Nick's teacher at Lincoln elementary. She has a reputation of being very strict. Mrs. Granger is obsessed with the dictionary and doesn't tolerate nonsense of any kind. When Nick comes up with the word frindle, Mrs. Granger does not allow it to be used in her class and acts against it. Deep inside she praises Nick for his creativity and enthusiasm but only shows these emotions towards the end of the book. She was very old-fashioned. She lived in a very small and tidy house. She had grey hair that was pulled tightly into a bun on the top of her head. She always wore a skirt, a jacket, a blouse under the jacket and a little pin on the neck of her jacket.
Mrs. Margaret ChathamMrs. Margaret Chatham is the principle of Nick's school (Lincoln elementary). She was a very tall and well- built woman. She was the first person to inform Nick's parents about Frindle. She was a very strict and typical school principle. In the book they said she looked like she could play american football.
